It is often tempting to begin devotional times with praise, prayer in tongues anything that will help get in the 'zone.' But to do this is to think that our relationship with God is all to do with how much we try. We must remember no amount of trying ever got anywhere with God. The first verse of the Bible, 'In the beginning God....' Everything starts with God. Devotional times are not to start with trying. Rather they are to start with surrender, with listening to His will, His voice, His inner promptings. They are to start and continue by letting Him flow through us, in Word and in Spirit. And the rest of the day can continue in this same way. Everything starts with Him.
